Operations |
| |
| |
Operation refers to the synchronization event during which the transfer of calendar information takes place between a single OutlookŪ and a single calendar on Google Calendar™ calendaring service. SyncMyCal Mobile provides the user with four kinds of operations depending upon the direction in which the information flows, that is, from Outlook to Google Calendar™ calendaring service or vice-versa or in both directions. |
| |
| |
An Operation defines a mapping between a single calendar on Google Calendar™ calendaring service and a single OutlookŪ Calendar. |
| |
Download Only |
| |
- In this Scenario, all new events defined in the Google Calendar™ calendaring service are downloaded into the Outlook® calendar (to which it is mapped).
- In case, the new events have been created in Outlook® calendar, they will remain in Outlook® calendar only, after synchronization. No Change would be observed in the Google Calendar™ calendaring service.
- All the Changes/updates in the Google Calendar™ calendaring service are reflected in the Outlook® calendar, after the Synchronization operation.
- In case, Changes/Updates of Event takes place in Outlook® calendar and No Event change/update is there in Google Calendar™ calendaring service, no update would be observed in the Google Calendar™ calendaring service, after the Synchronization operation.
- In case of deletion of events existing in Google Calendar™ calendaring service, Synchronization would result in deletion of the same events existing in the Outlook® calendar, after synchronization.
- In case of deletion of events existing in Outlook® calendar, Synchronization would result in creation of the same event in Outlook® calendar after synchronization.

What is Category Sync feature? |
| |
Category Sync filters out the Outlook appointments in terms of category. It lets you sync the selective events from Outlook calendar to Google calendar. For e.g. if you have categorized Work event and personal event in your Outlook calendar and you want to sync only personal events to your Google calendar then you may categorize the event with the category (e.g. Work) and selectively synchronize the Outlook calendar to Google calendar.
One Category maps to one Google calendar (Google calendar does not support categories) .You may map more than one category in Outlook to one Google calendar as well.
Hence using category sync feature you may selectively sync the events from Outlook calendar to Google calendar within the date range selected. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
Include /Exclude Category feature |
| |
| |
Include/ exclude category feature has been added to make Category Sync more flexible. With this feature you can either include or exclude the category for an operation so that all the events that are assigned this category can either be included or excluded. |
| |
Include Category |
| |
| |
When you choose to include category then it means that the all the event that is categorized with the selected category would get synced. For e.g. if you have chosen to include the ‘Business’ category with the ‘Upload’ operation then all the events with the ‘Business’ category would get published. The event with any other category say ‘personal’ category’ would not get published. |
| |
Exclude Category |
| |
| |
When you choose Exclude option then it means that all the events that are categorized with the selected category would not get synced and hence excluded from the sync. For e.g. if you have a shared Google calendar with your wife and you do not want to sync your business events to your shared Google calendar then you may categorize all the business event with the ‘Business’ category and Exclude ‘Business’ category in the setting. Now with this setting all the events would sync except the event that belongs to ‘Business’ category. |

or e.g. if you have selected to include categories as ‘Business’,’ home’ and ‘Friends’ then while adding/ updating Outlook items from Google calendar, you can tag the events with any or all categories among Business’,’ Home’ and ‘Friends’.
If you select any other categories for tagging as |
| |
| |
| |
| |
then the an error message would be displayed as : |
| |
| |
| |

So you need to select the categories for tagging among the categories that are included for synchronization.
If the ‘Outlook items with No categories is checked then you can leave the tag category field as blank as it signifies ‘No Category’. |

Category Sync Scenario |
| |
| |
If you have one Outlook calendar and two Google calendar say Personal and Business Google calendar and you need to sync the personal events from Outlook to Personal Google calendar and Business event to Business Google calendar. For these setting, category comes into play. You can easily set this with the help of Category Sync.
You need to create two operations to sync the events from outlook events to Google calendar selectively.
You can assign all business events a ‘Business’ category and all personal event a ‘Personal’ category.
You may create different settings with category sync to set different sync settings: |
| |
| |
Case 1: When the include option is selected and no category option is checked |
| |
| |
| |
| |
With this setting all the events that are not assigned any category would get synced as ‘Outlook with No Categories is checked’. Please see that the ‘Tag Category’ field is blank so all the events that gets synced from Google calendar to Outlook calendar would not have any category.
If you check the check box for ‘Use Category’ and you do not select any category as |
| |
| |
| |
| |
Then you would get the error message as if you have checked the check to use Category Sync feature then you need to select the categories. The error message would be as |
| |
| |
| |
| |
Case 2: When the include option is selected, ‘Personal’ category is included and ‘Outlook item with No Categories’ option is unchecked as. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
With this setting when one or more categories are added and ‘Outlook item with No Categories’ is not selected then all the events with the ‘Personal’ category would get synced. Please note that with this setting, you cannot tag with any other category except ‘Personal’ as you have included this category.
You need to be careful when you change the category for the Sync setting So for e.g. you have synchronized some events with category 'Business' from Outlook calendar to Google calendar and now if you change the category to 'Personal' in the 'Sync setting ' then all the events in Google calendar with 'Business' category would get deleted from Google calendar as the category for the Sync setting is changed and one categories map to one Google calendar. |
| |
| |
Case 3: When the include option is selected, Personal category is included, and ‘Outlook items with No categories’ is checked. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
With this setting all the events that belongs to either the category ‘Personal’ or ‘no category’ event would get synced from Outlook calendar to Google calendar. The events that get synchronized from Google calendar to Outlook calendar would be tagged with ‘Personal’ category in Outlook calendar.
If you select any other category other than 'Personal' say you have selected 'Business' category for tagging |
| |
| |
| |
| |
then this causes the error as you are tagging with different category |
| |
| |
| |
| |
as you need to have at least one category for tagging that is selected for 'Include Category' . You may tag with the categories which is not selected for 'Include Category' however you need to have at least one category among those which is selected for 'Include Category. |
| |
| |
Case 4: When the ‘exclude’ option is selected and ‘Outlook item with No categories’ check box is checked. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
With this setting, all the event would sync except the event that do not have any category assigned as with Exclude option ‘Outlook with No categories’ is selected. All the event that sync from Google calendar to Outlook calendar would be tagged with ‘Personal’ category.
If you have not selected to exclude any category from the list and you tag the event with say |
| |
| |
| |
| |
'Personal' category then it causes error as you need to exclude at least one category for synchronization. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
Case 5: When the ‘exclude’ option is selected, ‘Outlook items with No Categories’ is unchecked |
